Twitter is starting its new verification process. This means that Twitter account users can now apply for Blue Tick by going to their account settings. If you are entitled to a blue badge in the eyes of Twitter, then your account will be verified.
The system of profile verification on Twitter is not new. But the microblogging site discontinued its earlier model in 2017. Twitter said that its verification system was being viewed as endorsement or support. The new Twitter verification application process has been created by the company with the help of public feedback. It will start for everyone in the coming days.
Who can apply for Twitter Blue Tick?
Twitter says that to get a blue tick, it is important for your account to be authentic, notable, and active. Authentic means real. Notable means that you should fit into one of these 6 categories. These categories are
- Companies, Brands, and Organizations
- News organizations and journalists
- Sports and gaming
- Activists, Organizers and other influential people
Having a Twitter account active means that you have been running it continuously for the last 6 months. Your Twitter account should have complete information, such as your name and profile picture. A confirmed email address or phone number should be added to your account and you have not been banned for 12 hours or 7 days for violating Twitter rules in the last year.
How to apply for a Twitter verification badge?
Twitter has said that to apply for a verification badge, you have to go to the settings of your Twitter account and click on the Request Verification button. This button is not present yet, but it will be visible to you in the coming days.
After clicking on this button, you have to choose which one of the 6 categories mentioned above do you fit in. After that, to reveal your identity, you have to provide an ID card given by the government, and an email address from the office, or a link to the official website that confirms your Twitter account.
After completing this process, you will get an email from Twitter in a few days or weeks. If your application is approved, then your account will automatically be blue ticked, otherwise, you can apply for verification again after 30 days. If you do not fit into these 6 categories, then you have to stop a bit, because Twitter will soon add other categories in this verification application process.
